Twenty-five thousand volunteers belonging to the Noi2006 programme are expected to take part in the XX Olympic Winter Games ??“ Turin 2006.
Noi2006 Team
The 20,000 volunteers who are not part of the ceremonies will be involved in a wide range of activities during the Games. They will provide help and assistance to spectators, athletes and team officials, journalists, representatives of the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), sponsors and guests. They will also be present at competition venues, in the stands, the Olympic Villages, in the stadiums and anywhere else where there is some form of Games activity. More than 40,000 people have applied to join this programme within the one and a half year that it has been in operation.
Ceremonies Volunteers
The Ceremony Volunteer Programme started in February 2005 and applications are still being accepted. The Organising Committee for the XX Olympic Winter Games ??“ Torino 2006 (TOROC) is looking to find about 5,000 volunteers, who will participate in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Turin Games, alongside renowned international artists. Some 3,500 volunteers will work as dancers, actors, skaters, gymnasts, acrobats, musicians, entertainers and models; while the other 1,500 will be production assistants, working behind the scenes to ensure the success of the show.
Statistics
Of the 40,000 people registered with the Noi2006 programme, 56% are men and 44% are women, with 57% of them between the ages of 18 and 34. They are also an intelligent group with 54% holding a high school diploma and 22% having a university degree. Some 41% are students, 37% are in employment and 16% are retired. Sixty per cent of the volunteers come from Italy, with 40% coming from abroad, mainly from the Alpine countries, the United States and Canada.
