Hi Globelink
I am a British expat and have just come to live in Spain. When I contacted my usual Broker, I was surprised when he told me that he could not renew my Annual Multi Trip travel insurance policy, because I was no longer resident in UK. Then I read an article in The Euro Weekly News about a UK based travel insurer who specialises in proving cover for people living in all EU countries. I visited their website and was surprised to see how reasonable their prices were. I arranged cover online and received my policy instantly. It was very easy.

During a year we work hard and dream about those days when we will be able to leave everything and just enjoy living.
How many times have you wanted to get away from it all, and make a trip to the places you have always dreamed to visit but could not afford?
But why do you think you can not? Of course you can! During a year you buy dozens of useless things spending hundreds dollars on them instead of using money wisely.
The only thing you need to save money is to understand what you really need and what you are ready to do in order to achieve your goals. Now make a list of the things you can do without. I am sure that this list will be rather long.
Here is a simple example:
Let's pretend that every 2 days, you get a bottle of soda, and a candy bar at a convenience store - just a few of those many impulse buys that we are all tempted to make. 55 cents for the candy bar, and 99 cents for the soda comes out to $1.54. Multiply that by approximately 182 days, and you could've saved $280.28. Now $228 won't pay for the vacation itself, but it's a start.
For having a cheap vocation you will not have to go camping in your yard or local park. There exist many ways of traveling cheaply and pleasantly.
Here are some useful advices for those who want to have a great vacation for a little money.
- Do not travel by air unless you have very cheap tickets. Traveling by car is cheaper but gas costs much also. The least expensive way of traveling is by bus or by train but it also depends on the destination.
- Choose a place you want to visit beforehand and decide what you are going to visit and see there.
- Do not travel during the holidays, or mid-summer. Prices are always higher during this period of time and of coarse it is much harder to find the place to leave. Instead, travel during the fall, when school starts again, or early winter, when prices will be back to normal, if not cheaper than usual.
- Take along your own food and drinks. Pack a large cooler with sandwiches, fruit, drinks, vegetable sticks, and so on. Also bring many types of food that won't go bad if you don't eat them within the first few days. Crackers, cookies, dried fruit, trail mixes, and nuts are always good to snack on.
- Check the local online newspaper of the place you are visiting, and search for special money-saving coupons, discounts, and any special offers that you can find, and take advantage of.
- Bring plenty of extra clothes. You don't want to have to buy new clothes, just because you don't have anything else to wear.
- If you are traveling with small children, take a small bag packed with travel games, activity pads, tiny stuffed animals, crayons, and a coloring book to keep them busy. Even if you want the children to look around instead of playing in the backseat, it's much better to have them, "just in case".
- Jot down every expense you make during this trip, and be sure to save those receipts. By keeping track of how much you spent on this vacation, it will be easier to make an estimate on how much you need for the next vacation, and to keep your family motivated from buying those small un-needed purchases all throughout the year.
