Here we represent you a list of annoyances travelers may be faced with while traveling abroad.
These are not real big problems, but just annoying and helpful to realize this may happen.
TOUTS: A vender of some kind that does not stop asking or following you.
EAR CLEANERS - There are people in India that want to clean you ears. They are probably a scam. But at the minimum they are annoying. (India)
TAXI BEEPS - In lots of countries as a taxi goes by it beeps their horn to see if you want a taxi. Very annoying after awhile. (Peru)
BEEPING HORN - Lots of countries beep their horn when they start to pass or go around a corner. This is in so many countries that not worth talking about which ones.
SPITTING - Clearing the throat and spitting. Lots of countries. (Costa Rica)
PISSING - People urinating anywhere. Very common and annoying.
ELECTRICITY OFF - The electricity goes off in some countries a lot. (Mexico, India, Iraq)
DOGS BARKING - Dogs are the police force of countries. In countries with lot of thieves, or lot of robbers there are lots of dogs. They will come out and bark when you are walking home at night. (Thailand, Mexico, India)
CATS WITH FLEAS - Some Hotels have lot of cats. This will often mean there are lots of fleas.
SHUT ELECTRICITY OFF AT SUNDOWN - Some islands or some areas very remote they will shut off the electricity at sundown.
BUMPING IN STREET - In Central and South America they will bump or run into you as you walk down the street. It is very annoying and best to put your elbow up to let them avoid it.
STARING - In India the people stare at you all the time.
DOGS - They will have sex in the street and will not be able to separate correctly and will sit and squeal.
DOGS - Some think they are cats and will jump up on your table. (India)
BIRDS - in Thailand birds may land on your table and start to eat your food.
BEGGARS IN RESTAURANTS - A beggar or vender can walk into your restaurant and start to beg at your table and the owner of the restaurant will not do anything. In areas with large numbers of beggars it is better sometimes to sit inside, and they are less likely to harangue you while eating.
HOTELS - A water pump or a generator for electricity just outside your door can be horrible.
THROAT CLEARING - Most poor countries the men or women can sit in the morning and clear their throats for hours. You hear that and then they spit. One good reason to stay in hotels where only foreigners reside.
SPITTING - All of the underdeveloped countries.
NOSE BLOWING - They use their finger and blow their nose on the path.
BEGGARS THAT FOLLOW - In India the beggar will follow you down the street. Do not comment or answer questions or that will elongate the time.
SAY, "Hello Sir, How are you?" - This is the lead in question for them to start on the sale pitch. I find that it is better to just answer, "Very well and how are you?" Make it or emphasis that you expect the question to be just friendly and this makes them realize they will sound silly if they go into a sales pitch. If you are overly zealous in the reply that will show you are not timid and you will control the situation. They are looking to control your answer. The person that asks questions is in control. |
